Peck & Peck

The extravagantly twisty, sometimes strained plot here isn’t the draw. Rather it’s in the roster of offbeat characters ... An affecting ode to poetry.
Laugh-out-loud funny – and a paean to the power of poetry ... Though it sags a little in the middle, the result is a story that mostly zips along, and a resoundingly impassioned case for the importance of poetry in a profit-obsessed society that would gladly condemn it to extinction ... It is impossible not to be beguiled by Garmus’s irrepressible humour and the freewheeling exuberance of her imagination. It is hard to imagine a novel with more laugh-out-loud jokes about typography, harder still to dismiss her fierce exhortation to all of us to make words count.

In this vividly drawn tale, readers will feel all the emotions Gray does and suffer through his confusion, desperation, and finally, his exhilaration, as he discovers and understands who he is. A stunning novel.
